Met drie etappes die door het noorden van Spanje gaan, wordt het een groot feest voor het fietsen in het algemeen en het fietsen in Baskenland in bijzonder. Al eerder kon je de <a href=\"https:\/\/cyclingdestination.cc\/de\/geschichten\/spanien\/rondje-baskenland-grand-depart-deel-i\/\">preview van etappe \u00e9\u00e9n<\/a> zien op dit medium. Vandaag presenteren we ook deel twee, met weer de bijzondere insights van Haimar Zubeldia. Je leest ook het verslag hoe wij de etappe hebben beleefd, die we (grappig genoeg) eerst in tegenovergestelde richting reden. Niet onbelangrijk, maar zeker wel leuk! Een beetje wolken, hier en daar wat zon, een beetje wind. Onvoorspelbaar, hoewel alles erop wijst dat het in ieder geval niet gaat regenen. Dat is een voordeel. Vandaag op het program: de route van etappe twee met ondertussen een bezoek aan de fabriek van Etxeondo. De lokale fabrikant van hoogwaardige kleding zet de deuren voor ons open. De route leidt ons over de heuvel die rondom San Sebastian ligt in de richting van Irura. De weg golft, net als in etappe 1. Ik zie de groene heuvels, waar ik in gedachten de Baskische klimmers omhoog zie schieten. Achter de heuvels richting Zarautz ligt de <a href=\"https:\/\/magazine.etxeondo.com\/nl\/haimar-zubeldia-klasikoa-over-de-wegen-die-de-renner-heeft-gevormd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">favoriete trainingsklim van Haimar.<\/a> Hier worden kampioenen groot gemaakt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"12204\" src=\"https:\/\/cyclingdestination.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/SJKF9915-1024x683.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12204\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"12196\" src=\"https:\/\/cyclingdestination.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/SJKF9620-1024x683.webp\" alt=\"Donostia, Vitoria-Gasteiz, fietsen in Baskenland, baskenland fietsroute\" class=\"wp-image-12196\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">De klim dichtbij huis<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Voordat we de fabriek induiken, een soort speelgoedwinkel voor fietsliefhebbers, gaan we nog even omhoog op de Alkiza. De klim draagt de naam van het gehucht waarnaar we toe klimmen. Met een kleine  vijf kilometer aan prachtig Baskisch asfalt in een heuvelachtig decor is dit een mooi opwarmer voor de eindklim van deze etappe, de Jaizkibel. Het heeft een klein steil gedeelte, 500 meter ongeveer, dat boven de 10 procent gemiddeld komt, maar voor de rest is het vooral een lopend klimmetje. De top, die gemarkeerd wordt door een kerkje, een dorpsplein en vooral rust is een schilderachtig geheel. Omdat mijn reisgenoten hier nog niet eerder zijn geweest en omdat we ook met Haimar wat beelden schieten, krijgen we een rondleiding door de fabriek, waarbij Patxi Rodrigo ons de ins en outs verteld. Het verhaal van de hooiberg, de &#8216;etxe ondo&#8217; (het huis dichtbij) spreekt nu weer tot de verbeelding. Het harde werk en het &#8216;bewaren voor later&#8217; waar de hooiberg symbool voor staat zie je terug in de aandacht en kwaliteit van de kleding. Wat ook opvalt: de trouw van de medewerkers, want menig dame of heer werkt al jaren voor deze fabrikant. Waardes als &#8216;familie&#8217;, &#8216;aandacht&#8217; en &#8216;doen wat je zegt, zeggen wat je doet&#8217; zijn alom aanwezig. De etappe zelf start al veel eerder in Vitoria-Gasteiz, waarna het door de vlakte en de heuvels langs het park met de Aixkori, de hoogste piek in het Baskenland. De belangrijkste bezienswaardigheden in het park, <a href=\"https:\/\/tourism.euskadi.eus\/en\/natural-areas\/aizkorri-aratz-natural-park\/aa30-12375\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Aizkorri-Aratz<\/a> vind je vooral IN de heuvel, waar je grotten en oude Romeinse paden vindt. Dit zal in de Tour weer menig mooi plaatje opleveren. Bij O\u00f1ati, aan de noordkant van het park, ligt een prachtige klim met schilderachtige haarspeldbochten. Heerlijk om op te fietsen, want niet te steil, plus nog een prachtige locatie om dronebeelden te schieten. Onderweg krijg je nog meerdere, soms ook niet gemarkeerde, klimmetjes voorgeschoteld. Als je in het land kijkt, dan zie je de eerder benoemde hooibalen, de Etxe Ondo ook voorbij komen. Steven en Stijn leven zich helemaal uit. Ik aanschouw het van een afstandje en figureer in de beelden. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-6 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"12211\" src=\"https:\/\/cyclingdestination.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/SJKF9861-683x1024.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12211\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">De hooibaal, de etxe ondo, in het echt!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"12210\" src=\"https:\/\/cyclingdestination.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/SJKF9867-683x1024.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12210\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Prachtige vergezichten met puntige heuvels<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jaizkibel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wie Baskenland en fietsen in \u00e9\u00e9n zin noemt, komt automatisch bij de <a href=\"https:\/\/klasikoa.eus\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Klasikoa Donostia<\/a> uit. De Clasica San Sebastian, zoals velen hem kennen, is een heerlijke koers, net na de Tour de France, die de hoogtepunten van het Baskische land meeneemt. Ijkpunt is altijd de beklimming van de Jaizkibel. Ook in deze etappe is de klim naar de Jaizkibel de scherprechter. In tegenstelling tot de Clasica rijden de tourrenners de beklimming in omgekeerde richting. Als wij onderaan de klim staan, is het al aan het einde van de middag. We zien oudere en jongere renners nog even in de pedalen klimmen. Haimar geeft aan: &#8216;veel renners doen dit als avondritje, nog evne de Jaizkibel op en dan naar huis.&#8217; Zoals eerder gezegd, hier worden kampioenen gekneed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-7 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"12208\" src=\"https:\/\/cyclingdestination.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/SJKF9569-683x1024.webp\" alt=\"haimar zubeldia, fietsen in het baskenland\" class=\"wp-image-12208\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"12207\" src=\"https:\/\/cyclingdestination.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/SJKF9596-683x1024.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12207\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"12206\" src=\"https:\/\/cyclingdestination.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/SJKF9606-683x1024.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12206\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pijn overal<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De Jaizkibel mag dan niet de langste klim zijn, het is wel de meest venijnige. Hij bestaat uit twee delen, met een eerste stuk dat redelijk makkelijk omhoog rijdt. Na drie kilometer, bij de &#8216;Guadelupe&#8217; gaat het steil omhoog. De laatste vier en een halve kilometer zijn de pijnlijkste, met daarin een uitschieter naar 11 procent en een venijnige kilometer met negen procent gemiddeld. In de koers zal dit de beslissing vormen. Voor renners zoals jij en ik is het pijnlijk zweten. Haimar zet mij nog even voor schut door &#8216;m op het buitenblad te gooien en met mond dicht voorbij te scheuren. Het kind in de Bask is nog steeds aanwezig. Het laat ook weer even zien wat het verschil is tussen de top van de wereld en de gewone amateurs. Bovenop is het eigenlijk genieten geblazen. Met een wijds uitzicht over de golf van Biskaje en een beeld dat helemaal naar Frankrijk reikt, kan ik hier prima even bijkomen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-8 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"12195\" src=\"https:\/\/cyclingdestination.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/SJKF9614-1024x683.webp\" alt=\"Fietsen in Baskenland, Jaizkibel\" class=\"wp-image-12195\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Grand Depart Baskenland &#8211; routes 2023<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hieronder vind je de drie routes van het <a href=\"https:\/\/cutt.ly\/r6gnwJl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Grand Depart 2023<\/a>. Voor deze reis hebben we de routes soms wat anders gereden dan het peloton dat zal doen. Desalniettemin hebben we grote delen gereden en hebben we een goed beeld kunnen neerzetten van de etappes.
