Als onderdeel van de Verenigde Arabische Emiraten komt Abu Dhabi vaker naar voren als enerzijds golfbestemming, anderzijds als expat walhalla, met lage belastingen en vooral 365 dagen zon. Daarnaast is ook de impact van de Formule 1 race op het <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yasmarinacircuit.com\/en\/healthandfitness\/trainam-detailpage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Yas Marina Circuit<\/a> niet te onderschatten. Abu Dhabi is een mooie winterbestemming voor jouw fietsvakantie. Inmiddels is er de UAE tour, de facto de seizoensopening in 2022, en er zijn nu ook meer recreatieve events. We kregen deze week het nieuws dat Abu Dhabi nog meer gaat investeren in fietsinfrastructuur. Goed nieuws, wat ons betreft en des te meer reden om dit emiraat wat meer uit te lichten. Daarnaast heeft Abu Dhabi als eerste stad in Azi\u00eb een UCI Bike City label ontvangen! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wat een stad<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Voor velen is Abu Dhabi synoniem voor de vele woontorens en de Yas Marina, waar ook het F1 circuit ligt. De stad heeft hoge gebouwen en lijkt daardoor vrij onaantrekkelijk als fietsbestemming. Toch heeft het ook wel iets om door een vrij aangeharkte stad te rijden, met goed asfalt als bonus. Vergeet niet dat als je op het strand bent, dat het 40 kilometer duurt voordat je de stad uit bent! Het zal je niet verbazen dat de stad vrij vlak is. Verwacht hier (zelfs in de VAE) geen neoklimmetjes of andere uitdagingen. Daarvoor zul je echt de stad uit moeten. In de stad zelf kun je beter kijken naar de architectuur en gewoon lekker trappen. Regelmatig vinden er fietsevents plaats en ook trainingen door de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yasmarinacircuit.com\/en\/healthandfitness\/trainam-detailpage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TrainAM club<\/a>. Voor de fans van Triatlon is er ook een TriYAS op het circuit. Hier heb je een geheel geasfalteerd, geonduleerd rondje, dat erg populair is bij fietsers, maar ook hardlopers. De track heeft verschillende opties, van een kort 8 kilometer ritje, 16 kilometer of de volle ronde van 30 kilometer.  Verwacht hier ook geen alpenklim, maar in ieder geval wat meer variatie dan over lange rechte, vlakke wegen rijden. Bij de stad Al Ain vind je de Jebel Hafeet. Voor de liefhebbers van haarspeldbochten: hier kun je je hart ophalen! De klim naar de top van deze magische heuvel is ongeveer 10 kilometer lang. Je krijgt in totaal 800+ hoogtemeters voorgeschoteld. Dat is dus 8% gemiddeld. Maar dat geeft je wel de kans om bijvoorbeeld de zonsondergang of zonsopgang te fotograferen. Er moet een heus 109 kilometer lang fietspad rondom de stad komen. Daarnaast zijn er wilde plannen voor een indoor baan op het populaire eiland Hudayriyat. Dit velodroom moet 3500 bezoekers een plekje geven en zal ook weer voor meer fietsmogelijkheden zorgen in en om de stad. Exciting stuff!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When to go<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Net als alle andere bestemmingen in deze regio is het niet verstandig om in de zomer naar Abu Dhabi te gaan. Tenzij je aan het trainen bent voor een ultra race en op zoek bent naar de mogelijkheden om jouw extreme grens op te zoeken. Abu Dhabi is een mooie winterbestemming. Let altijd wel op voor zandstormen, die kunnen van het ene op het andere moment opsteken en voor je het weet lig je er onder. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bike service<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Er zijn genoeg mogelijkheden om een fiets te huren in de regio. Check specifiek even de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yascycles.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Yas Cycles<\/a> winkels.
