Cycling in Luxembourg

More than just a stopover: rolling roads, rocks, the Sûre river and free public transport, all within a few hours' drive.

Luxembourg

When you think of Luxembourg, you immediately think of cheap gas when heading south. However, it’s worth staying longer, especially with a bike behind you.

Why Luxembourg?

The road surface is fantastic, the landscape is rolling and the roads are winding through meadows and forests. You hardly find flat kilometers here. Public transport is also free and well organized.

Berdorf and the Müllerthal

Berdorf is located on a plateau at over 300 meters above sea level in the east of the country. From there you descend to the Sûre, the border river with Germany, and drive along the meanders to Echternach. The return route up the Berdorf passes through special rock formations, the most beautiful stretch for those who enjoy climbing.

Cycling in Luxembourg in figures

  • There are about 600 kilometers of cycling paths and 700 kilometers of mountain biking routes, and more are being added all the time.
  • Five tourist regions are located within a short distance of each other: Éislek in the north, the Mullerthal, the Guttland, the Moselle and the Minett.
  • A real cycling country: from Charly Gaul to the Schleck brothers.
  • Many bed+bike addresses with a closed bike shed and tools.
  • Public transport is free throughout Luxembourg, so you can always take the train back after a long journey.

Gravel in Luxembourg

In 2025, a UCI gravel race was held for the first time in Vianden, a qualifying event for the UCI Gravel World Series, with about 1,500 riders from more than thirty countries. In June 2026, the race returned. Éislek is the toughest gravel area, Guttland the most relaxed, and along the Moselle you ride through the vineyards. Your Cycling base

Luxembourg is small; from any place you can drive to another part of the country:

  • Luxembourg City: central, with free public transport and trains where you can bring your bike.
  • Echternach or Berdorf: For the Müllerthal, with rocks, forests and short climbs.
  • Vianden or Clervaux: in the north, in the hills of the Oesling.
  • Remich: on the Moselle, with flat roads along the vineyards.
