Part of Netherlands
Overijssel has more topography than you might think. The Sallandse Heuvelrug, with the Holterberg and the Lemelerberg, is a small climbing paradise in the middle of the country. And Twente, in the east, is a patchwork of sycamores, wood walls and dirt roads.
Why cycle in Overijssel?
- The Sallandse Heuvelrug: National Park, heathland and short, challenging climbs.
- Twente: a landscape of fields around Ootmarsum, Oldenzaal and Losser, with endless amounts of unpaved roads.
- The Vechtdal: forests and river dunes between Ommen and Hardenberg.
- The Weerribben-Wieden in the northern part of the province, around Giethoorn: flat, but beautiful.
When are you leaving?
From April to October. In August and September the heather blooms on the Sallandse Heuvelrug.
How do you get there?
By train to Holten, Deventer, Almelo or Enschede, or by car in about an hour and a half.
