Het is een groene wereld van dichte bossen, stuwmeren en vakwerkstadjes, met de Brocken (1141 meter) als hoogste punt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Waarom fietsen in de Harz?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>De Brocken: de klim naar de top is autovrij, dus ideaal voor gravel en mountainbike.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Vakwerkstadjes als Wernigerode, Goslar en Quedlinburg.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Honderden kilometers bosweg in Nationaal Park Harz.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Rustige, bochtige wegen langs de stuwmeren.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hoogtepunten op de fiets<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>De Brocken (1.141 meter), het dak van Noord-Duitsland. Een lange, grillige klim; start vroeg, want later op de dag trekt vaak mist binnen.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Wernigerode en Schierke: een vakwerkstad met een kasteel, en een dorp in het dal van de Bode aan de voet van de Brocken. Racefietsers vinden er lange, bochtige wegen door de bossen en een paar stevige klimmen. Vanuit Bad Harzburg klim je naar Torfhaus, het hoogste punt dat je met de racefiets bereikt, met uitzicht op de Brocken. Het Okertal is een prachtig rotsdal met een stuwmeer bovenin, en rond Sankt Andreasberg en Braunlage liggen kleine wegen over de hoogvlakte. In het oosten, rond Thale en Quedlinburg, wordt het glooiender en rijd je door het voorland met akkers en vakwerkdorpen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De Brockenstra\u00dfe naar de top is gesloten voor auto&#8217;s. Daardoor is het een geliefde klim voor fietsers, maar het wegdek is deels oud beton en kasseien, en er rijdt ook de smalspoortrein. Rijd hem liever met een gravelbike of brede banden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Drie ritten om mee te beginnen<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Wernigerode \u2013 Schierke \u2013 Brocken en terug<\/strong> (ongeveer 45 km): de klassieker, met een flinke klim naar het dak van Noord-Duitsland. Start vroeg; later op de dag trekt vaak mist binnen.<\/li>\n\n\n<li><strong>Bad Harzburg \u2013 Torfhaus \u2013 Okertal<\/strong> (ongeveer 60 km, racefiets): de mooiste asfaltklim van de Harz en een afdaling door het rotsdal.<\/li>\n\n\n<li><strong>Bodetal en Rappbodetalsperre vanuit Thale<\/strong> (ongeveer 55 km): langs de Hexentanzplatz, de stuwdam met de hangbrug en terug door het dal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Praktische tips<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Mist en wind<\/strong>: de Brocken is vaak in de wolken. Neem altijd een windjack en lampjes mee.<\/li>\n\n\n<li><strong>Smalspoortrein<\/strong>: met de Harzer Schmalspurbahnen kun je je fiets omhoog laten brengen en zelf naar beneden rijden. Check vooraf of er plek is.<\/li>\n\n\n<li><strong>Nationaal park<\/strong>: in het Nationalpark Harz mag je alleen op aangegeven wegen fietsen. Houd je eraan; het is een kwetsbaar gebied.<\/li>\n\n\n<li><strong>Combineer<\/strong>: de Harz ligt deels in Saksen-Anhalt, deels in Nedersaksen en een stukje in Th\u00fcringen. Binnen een uur ben je in Quedlinburg, Goslar of Nordhausen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Waar verblijf je?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wernigerode is de mooiste stad om te slapen, met een kasteel, een treinstation en veel restaurants. Benneckenstein en Schierke liggen hoger en dichter bij het gravel. Bad Harzburg en Goslar zijn handig voor de westkant en de racefietsklimmen. Thale en Quedlinburg zijn ideaal voor het oosten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Voor wie is de Harz?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De Harz is voor gravelrijders en mountainbikers die bossen, rotsen en geschiedenis zoeken, en voor racefietsers die een paar stevige klimmen in Noord-Duitsland willen. Het is ook een bijzondere bestemming door de geschiedenis: dwars door het gebergte liep tot 1989 de grens tussen Oost- en West-Duitsland. Langs die oude grens fiets je nu over het Gr\u00fcne Band, een strook natuur met wachttorens en grensmuseums. Voor een gezin of gemengd gezelschap zijn er treinen, kastelen en vakwerkstadjes genoeg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rustdag in de Harz<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Neem de smalspoortrein naar de Brocken en wandel naar beneden.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Loop over de Titan RT, de lange hangbrug bij de Rappbodetalsperre.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Bezoek de oude stad Quedlinburg of de mijnstad Goslar, beide Unesco-werelderfgoed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eten en drinken<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In de Harz eet je hartig: Harzer K\u00e4se (een pittige magere kaas), wild, forel en Schmorgerichte. Bij elke berghut krijg je een stuk taart of een kom soep. Probeer ook het bier van de brouwerij in Wernigerode of het kruidenlikeurtje Schierker Feuerstein. Na een gravelrit is een Gastst\u00e4tte in een vakwerkhuis de perfecte plek om bij te komen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wanneer ga je?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mei tot en met september.
