It stretches literally into the Savoie, Haute-Savoie, Is\u00e8re and the Ard\u00e8che. The Auvergne consists of the departments of Cantal, Puy-de-Dome and part of Haute-Loire. Cycling in the Auvergne means climbing mountains. It is home to professional cyclist Romain Bardet. Is it a coincidence that he has become such a good climber? Unfortunately, the Puy de D\u00f4me itself remains off-limits. Starting in Orcines, you cycle through the forests, you almost visit all the volcanoes (there are many of them), and you are presented with so many beautiful photos. The unique geology (the volcanic history) of the region makes it fantastic. Start in Chouvigny, where you cycle along the river with stunning views of the steep (hanging) cliffs and the green valley. The route takes you past charming medieval villages like \u00c9breuil and Charroux, where you can stop for a coffee and take a quick peek into the local history. It is located a little further south in the Auvergne region. The volcanoes are also prominent here. The classic spa town of Le Mont-Dore is a great starting point. The route winds through the forests, past the waterfalls and on to the Col de la Croix-Morand. You can stop there for a good lunch or coffee with something sweet. The views are guaranteed! You can start in Saint-Gen\u00e8s-Champanelle or, for example, from Royat. You cycle along quiet roads through the forests, with occasional climbs. You pass by the lake, perfect for a swim or a picnic after the ride. The route offers short climbs and beautiful views over the surrounding landscape. If you start from Royat, you start right away with the Circuit de Charade as a climb. Starting in Ambert, you cycle through the beautiful surroundings of the national park. So make sure you set the right gear and take into account sometimes steeper slopes. It can become threatening and then suddenly start to thunder (and rain hard). Be aware of this and you\u2019ll quickly become vulnerable in the relatively open landscape. <a href=\"https:\/\/meteofrance.com\/\">Meteo France<\/a> do you have the most up-to-date local facility<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Enjoy the cuisine of the Auvergne<\/strong>The Auvergne is known for its cheeses, charcuterie and hearty food. You could say it\u2019s the perfect fuel for cyclists. The sleepy villages often house delicious specialties. Try a \u2019truffade\u2019, a kind of thick pancake made from potatoes. There are all sorts of variations. A good truffle is usually made with goose fat, so for vegetarians and vegans always check!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are looking for a nice place to stay somewhere, check the <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.francevelotourisme.com\/accueil-velo\/accommodatie\">\u2018Acceuil Velo\u2019<\/a> website for good accommodations where you can also stay with your bike. I have stayed myself at <a href=\"https:\/\/cutt.ly\/xeYdu1TH\">Huttopia in Royat<\/a> slept. A luxury campsite with many facilities, including bike rental. There were only e-bikes, but the advantage was that there was also a key set and pump available. You could also rinse your bike further down the campsite.
