Of Tour de France<\/a> is the ultimate cycling event of the year. Many cyclists have nothing to do with the race, but when the Tour comes around, many make an exception. True fanatics follow the tour almost every day, like Karel Magry (read his findings on our sister platform). It's Koers<\/a>!). Others are looking for a nice place to watch the Tour pass by. Then there are the climbers who love tackling the Tour cols. But you also have the enthusiasts. The Tour de France<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For those who have nothing to do with the race, a brief introduction. In 1903 the first Tour de France was held. In short, a tour through France. In 122 years this event has grown into the ultimate cycling race of the year. In recent years, the women\u2019s version has also been revived with the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift. The Tour de France is generally held in July, lasts three weeks, and has 20 to 21 stages. The finish is traditionally in Paris; the start varies from year to year, just as the route. The women\u2019s versions are nine days long and follow immediately after the men\u2019s version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why do you want to follow the Tour? The Tour is a party. You have a promotional caravan ahead of you; villages often turn into open-air festivals for a day, and there\u2019s plenty to see and do at the finish lines too. Plus, you might get to see a high-level sporting event once along the way. That\u2019s pretty cool to see (and if you bike a bit of the course yourself, you\u2019ll be encouraged to do so too!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tour de France 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2026 Tour starts on July 4 in Barcelona. After that, the circus travels through the Pyrenees towards the heart of France, towards the Jura Mountains and the Alps, finally finishing in Paris. Along the route, there are several beautiful places to stay overnight. We worked with Huttopia to create your own Tour de France. Grab your pen and paper. The ladies\u2019 version starts on August 1 in Lausanne, Switzerland. We are now focusing on the men\u2019s version. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your overnight schedule for this tour<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Day 1 to 3 \u2013 Barcelona Pirineos<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Tour starts in Catalonia and stays there for three days before arriving in France on July 6. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the first three days, we recommend that you stay on Huttopia Barcelona Pirineos<\/a> to stay. This is a relatively new accommodation and the third stage on July 6 passes right by here. From here you can also visit stages 1 and 2, although you will have to drive a bit for that. Stage two goes from Tarragona to Barcelona; stage 1 is around Barcelona. The campsite is 1.20 minutes outside Barcelona. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You still have plenty of time in the morning to tackle one of the beautiful climbs in the Catalan Pyrenees, then descend to \u2018Barca\u2019. For stage 3, you can even stop for a while before the peloton and the \u2018Caravane\u2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 4 to 6 \u2013 Tour in the Gers \u2013 Lac de L\u2019Uby<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The fourth stage is between Carcassonne and Foix. Both of these places are further away from a Huttopia campsite, so we recommend heading towards Huttopia Lac de L\u2019Uby<\/a> in the Gers<\/strong> You can still pick up a little bit of the 4th stage on the way, and you\u2019ll be in position for stages 5 and 6. Those are all around Pau, and that\u2019s only 1.5 hours by car. Stage 6 starts in Hagetmau and then continues up to Bordeaux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Days 7 to 9 \u2013 The Dordogne \u2013 Pays des Bastides<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

On days 7 and 8 you are with Huttopia Pays de Bastides<\/a> It's really good in the Dordogne. The finish in Bergerac is just over an hour away and the region is also perfect for a self-drive tour. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neal had already been<\/a> When traveling in this area, you can see the (medieval) villages and hamlets right before your eyes. For stage 8, the start is in Malemort. You can choose to take a rest day the day after, so you can make the crossing to the next campsite., Huttopia Lac de La Siauve<\/a>, which is quite close to the next part of the Tour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 10 and 11 Lac de La Siauve in the Auvergne<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This part of the Tour de France revolves around the Auvergne<\/strong>. Huttopia has several options for that. In 2025, the Tour de France also rode around here and went directly past Huttopia Royat. That was very close to the campsite. Circuit de Charade<\/strong>, a A nice ride to do on a bike<\/a>. From Huttopia Lac de La Siauve<\/a> the location is Auvergne<\/strong> You\u2019re at your feet and you\u2019re just over an hour away from Le Lioran, the finish of the next stage. This is on July 14, Quattorze Juillet, the national holiday in France. We say: go on your bike, park it on the side and let yourself be swept away by the festive atmosphere. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 12 to 14 - two nights in Meursault<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

From now on, the mountain stages of the race are about to begin. There is still a transition stage from Nevers to Chalon-Sur-Sa\u00f4ne (in Sa\u00f4ne-et-Loire, in Burgundy). It is perfect to watch from the road. Huttopia Meursault<\/a>. The Die finish is only 30 minutes from the campsite, ideal for doing it by bike too. Burgundy offers a wonderful ride through the hilly landscape, followed by a local glass of something or other. After all, Burgundian life begins here. Day 13 is therefore beautiful, because then you take the Start in Dole with you. It\u2019s great to start with and then continue on. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

15 to 17 \u2013 Near the border with Switzerland in the Jura \u2013 Divonne Les Bains<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The route heads towards the Vosges. There you have several options for a beautiful Huttopia accommodation<\/a> as The Forest of the Vosges<\/a><\/strong>. That one might already be fully booked soon. Although you might miss the stage to Le Markstein, we say: go for it to Jura and Huttopia Divonne Les Bains<\/a>, Because then you are in a perfect position to complete the stage from Champagne to Plateau de Solaison<\/strong> You can also explore this beautiful area on the rest day, with climbs in France and Switzerland (for example the Barillette, a beautiful climb. Third week of the Tour \u2013 days 18-19-20 in the Savoie \u2013 Lac d\u2019Aiguebelette<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

After Divonne Les Bains you have two choices. You can stay an extra night and then \u2018cross over\u2019 to see the stages at Evian-les-Bains and Thonon-les-Bains. If you do that, you then head to a campsite like Huttopia Lac d\u2019Aiguebelette<\/a> in the Savoie. You'll have to book that in time because it fills up very quickly.
