The measure applies, among other things, around the <strong>Stelvio<\/strong>, <strong>Jaufenpas<\/strong>, <strong>Timmelsjoch<\/strong> and the route around the Sella massif. Access roads to nature parks, the Dolomites and other protected areas may also be included.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/news.provincia.bz.it\/it\/news\/in-futuro-stop-ad-eventi-sportivi-motoristici-nelle-aree-protette\">South Tyrol Province<\/a> The rules must reduce noise, emissions, additional traffic, and safety risks. They align with the 2030 Sustainability Strategy and the 2040 Climate Plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Non-competitive events are also covered by the ban<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ban applies to timed races, but also to non-competitive gatherings and events organised primarily for entertainment. This applies to cars, motorcycles and tractors, regardless of their propulsion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The line between a prohibited event and an authorised group ride is not yet entirely clear. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motoplus.nl\/artikel\/bergpassen-meer-en-meer-verboden-gebied\/\">MotoPlus<\/a> writes that a recognisable organisational structure can be sufficient. This would mean that guided tours or club rides with a fixed meeting point could also fall under the rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.speedweek.com\/en\/a\/south-tyrol-bans-motor-sport-events-and-outings\">Speedweek<\/a> employs an explanation that leaves less room for interpretation. According to this reading, commercial organisation and payment to an organiser are important characteristics, while rides by friends or associations may be considered private transport. Practice will have to show where the province draws the line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">No traffic-free Stelvio<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The famous hairpin bends of the Stelvio will therefore remain accessible to motorcycles and cars. Individual road users may continue to use the passes in question. The ban applies exclusively to organised events. That in itself is already very good news. We have often experienced ourselves that a motorcycle club can be a dangerous fellow road user for a cyclist. A lot of showboating, unexpected manoeuvres and, above all, a nuisance. Especially downhill, mind you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even licence applications that were not yet completed on 19 June will be assessed according to the new rules. In the event of infringements, the province can impose an administrative fine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Provincial President Arno Kompatscher said that the ban will not solve the problems on the mountain passes alone. The government is therefore working on additional measures against heavy traffic and reckless driving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The South Tyrolean Alpine Association supports the move, but motoring organisations and tour operators are critical. They fear that regular guided tours will also be affected. Some providers say that such rides generate 30 to 40 percent of their summer turnover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anyone travelling to South Tyrol this summer can still use the passes.
