In het gehucht Parike, in het hart van het Vlaamse<\/a> land, vind je het geesteskind van Jamie Anderson en Bernard Moerman: het Flandrien Hotel<\/a>. Een thuisbasis voor alle fietsers. ‘A home away from home’. In het voorjaar van 2022<\/a> waren we te gast bij dit boutique fietshotel<\/a> in Belgi\u00eb en toen wisten we eigenlijk al: dit is een plek die fietsen ademt. Een plek waar wij graag komen en waar we iedereen zo naar toe zouden sturen. Het Flandrien Hotel is een fietsbestemming die wij uberhaupt aanraden. Is het Flandrien Hotel ‘approved’? Het zou zomaar kunnen. Lees onze bevindingen hieronder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alles in thema<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Waarom verblijven verschillende cyclocross teams, het NextGen dames team maar ook andere (soon to be) profs in hemelsnaam in Parike? Het is zo klein op de kaart, dat je er zo doorheen rijdt. De Sint-Lambertuskerk is een herkenbaar punt, maar langs de doorgaande weg rij je er zo voorbij. De reden is simpel: Bernard en Jamie hebben over alles nagedacht en alles aan dit hotel is in \u00e9\u00e9n thema: fietsen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Een mooie anekdote<\/a> die zowel Jamie en Bernard met liefde opvoeren is de volgende: toen zij het pand, een voormalige boerderij, gingen bezichtigen met de makelaar, zagen ze de kasseien bij de poort. ‘Oh the cobbles’ riep Jamie enthousiast uit. Waarop de makelaar vlug reageerde: ‘ja maar dat kunnen we laten asfalteren’. Het mag duidelijk zijn dat de kasseien er nog steeds liggen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clubhuis, museum, trainingscentrum, hotel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

De beeltenis van Briek Schotte, een echte Flandrien, de keuze voor de Peugeot team kleuren, de (originele?) Peugeot team auto, de galerie. Alles ademt fiets. Het clubhuis is de plek waar je samenkomt voor jouw rit of training en waar je naderhand weer terugkomt voor de verhalen. Onder het genot van een drankje kijk je naar de koers of naar de prachtige fietscollectie die met zorg is samengesteld door Jamie. Het is ook de plek waar het (rijke) ontbijtbuffet wordt geserveerd en waar ’s avonds het zelfgekookte, sport gerichte diner van Jamie wordt opgediend. Rijk aan de juiste voedingsstoffen voor een stevige dag op de fiets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In het hart van de Ronde <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Wie de kaart van Belgi\u00eb erbij pakt en daaroverheen het parcours van de Ronde van Vlaanderen legt, ziet dat het Flandrien hotel perfect gepositioneerd is. Op nog geen tien kilometer van Geraardsbergen, waar de muur altijd roept. Met een mooie rit pak je alle bekende klimmetjes mee vanuit de ronde. De Oude Kwaremont, Kanarieberg, Bosberg, you name it. Het ligt allemaal om de hoek. Over routes hoef je je niet druk te maken. Want je kunt gewoon kiezen voor de bekende lussen uit de Ronde van Vlaanderen, die je onder andere door Oudenaarde leiden, langs het Centrum van de Ronde. Of je vraagt aan kenner van de koers Bernard waar je de benen kunt testen, of waar je net dat ene, nog onbekende klimmetje kunt vinden. Als oud ploegleider kent hij de (wetten van de) koers als zijn broekzak. In het Flandrien Hotel is alles voor de fietser aanwezig.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In orde<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Niet alleen de looks van het hotel spreken tot de verbeelding. Ook de basis is meer dan goed op orde. Uiteraard kun je de fiets in een echte fietsgarage beveiligd opbergen. Er zijn slippers voor in het hotel, zodat je de pedalen van je schoenen spaart. Onderhoud is zo gepiept en met Jamie als volleerd mechanieker is elk probleem binnen no-time opgelost. Tijdens ons bezoek hielp Jamie bovenop de Paterberg nog een wielertoerist om zijn E3 Cyclo te vervolgen. Dat vertaalt zich ook naar de kamers, die meer dan in orde zijn. Naar de mogelijkheden om in het clubhuis nog een laatste binnenbandje mee te nemen of je te voorzien van sportvoeding. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cycling Destination Approved<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Wat wij toentertijd nog niet wisten, was dat wij een eigen kwaliteitslabel zouden ontwikkelen. Een label dat we met liefde toekennen aan plekken waar we direct weer naar terug willen keren. Met recht een ‘home away from home’ als het op een hotel aankomt. Daarom zijn wij blij dat wij dit label mogen toekennen aan een plek als het Flandrien Hotel.
