Part of Netherlands
Flevoland is the youngest province of the Netherlands: a land that a century ago was still at sea. You can see that from the straight roads, the wide dykes and the forests that are all equally old. It is the place to make time and collect wind kilometers.
Why cycle in Flevoland?
- Long, quiet roads and dykes along the Markermeer and IJsselmeer.
- The Eastvaardersplassen: marshland, conestables and large grazers.
- The Horsterwold and the Kuinderbos: young forests with paths that are also great for gravel bikes.
- Urk and Schokland, two former islands with their own story.
When are you leaving?
All year round, but most enjoyable from April to October. Note the wind: there is little shelter in the polder.
How do you get there?
By train to Almere or Lelystad, or by car within an hour from the Randstad.
