When you think of Flevoland, Attractions like Walibi, Lowlands, and the Afsluitdijk might come to mind first. But have you ever considered that Flevoland is also a fantastic cycling destination? Landal Waterparc Veluwemeer offers a perfect base from which to explore this unique province on two wheels, with a surprising variety of cycling routes that you can take from the park.

Start your Ride with a Warm-up Round
Despite the unpredictable weather, we start our cycling weekend with a 36-kilometer warm-up round. Starting from Landal Veluwemeer, near Biddinghuizen, our route leads through the ‘interior’ of Flevoland. After an unexpectedly beautiful journey through wooded areas and over tightly-graded gravel paths, we continue along scenic views of water to return to the park. The course promises wide roads along meadows and dykes – a true Flevoland landscape.
Cycling in Flevoland: Explore the Province's Surroundings
On Saturday, an ambitious route is on the program: exploring the entire circumference of Flevoland in 146 kilometers. That’s quite a challenge, with the beautiful bike paths along the edge of the province. However, the weather has other plans, so we choose a shorter route along the well-known Oostvaarders Plassen. This route offers vast meadows and natural areas where you’ll come face-to-face with the wild animals roaming free.
Meetings and Discoveries
During our ride, we meet a stranded cyclist who has to continue his journey to Amsterdam. With a helping hand (and a spare tire), we help him out of the trouble. For €10, he gets the tire. That’s cheaper than the UBER he wanted to call. Shortly after, we enjoy a well-deserved coffee break at the visitor center of the Oostvaarders Plassen. We spent that ten euro anyway. Our tip: Plan your coffee stops carefully, because in Flevoland there are fewer cafes than you normally expect on a cycling route.
Last Day: From Veluwemeer to Veluwe
The last day takes us from the park to Harderwijk and we quickly cross over to the Veluwe. We enjoy the wooded surroundings and heather fields and make a stop in Vierhouten. These varied routes offer both beautiful roads for the hard-riders and quiet paths for those who prefer to cycle at their own pace. In our opinion, that’s what we enjoy anyway.
