Part of Spain
The Balearic Islands are a group of islands in the Mediterranean Sea, east of the Spanish mainland. From largest to smallest: Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera. They are close together, but differ considerably in atmosphere and what you can do on a bike there.
The islands
Mallorca
One of Europe’s most popular cycling destinations and a training base for professional teams. The Serra de Tramuntana, Sa Calobra and the Puig Major, but also rolling hills and quiet coastal paths. With plenty of rental and bike hotels.
Ibiza
Smaller and increasingly popular with cyclists, especially known for its mountain biking trails. Outside of the high season, the inland is surprisingly quiet. Take a day trip to Formentera.
Menorca
Few roads, but lots of gravel: the 185-kilometer Camí de Cavalls follows almost the entire coast. Ideal for gravel and mountain bikes with wide tires.
When are you leaving?
The best months are March to June and September to November. In the summer it is hot and crowded on the islands.
How do you get there?
Flying is the only practical option: daily flights from Amsterdam, Eindhoven and Rotterdam to Palma de Mallorca and Ibiza.
