I have a thing for water. Not only is it literally vital to life, but I find the power of water something very special. Put me in Rotterdam on the Kop van Zuid and I am a happy man. I must say that I have more affinity with rivers than with the sea. Quite funny. That’s why I always look with excessive interest at tours and routes that have the element ‘water’ in them. The routes along the Loire are particularly of this type, where you always have a link to the water. If you’re going to cycle along the flat terrain anyway, rather than climbing a high mountain, then this is a good alternative. With the Loire by Bike cycling pass you’re in for a real treat.

Passport please
With Loire à Vélo you can add an extra twist to the theme of ‘cycling along the water’. In fact, a new travel diary and passport have been introduced to give cycling enthusiasts like me a purpose on their journey along the water. With the cycling passport that has been launched, you are guided on the long journey from Saint-Brevin-les-Pins (Loire-Atlantique) to Cuffy (Cher) (or vice versa). Now, a hard copy passport book isn’t the most convenient thing, especially if you also have to deal with rain, but that’s the charm. You have the book stamped with 24 unique stamps, each representing a different area. Collect the stamps at the participating VVV offices along the 620 km of cycling paths between Saint-Brevin-les-Pins and Cuffy, in Nantes, Angers, Saumur, Tours, Blois, Orléans, Sancerre and many other cities, and you have a beautiful souvenir.

Unique postage stamps
The Loire has something mythical about it. You mainly drive past vineyards, the famous castles like Chenonceau, Chambord and, for example, the castle of Blois. In addition, the vineyards are a major attraction. A good Touraine won’t let you go easily, for example. All these elements can be found in the stamps, which are all 24 unique and in which the region served as inspiration. The connection with the Atlantic Ocean has not been forgotten either. With 24 different designs, each representing the identity of a place on the route, you’ll still come home with a fun souvenir. This turns a boring trip along the water into a real treasure hunt.

Personalize and store
You can find everything from old-fashioned to kinky, or just funny. A book that allows you to keep detailed records of your journey, including the length of the stages, notable events, and more. It offers an old, or rather new, way of creating memories. In an age of purely digital, I find it a nice change of pace. For just under a hundred dollars, you already own this little gem. 38 stages (if you go REALLY SLOWLY), and with room for the 24 stamps. That sounds like a great idea for this summer! A total of 900 kilometers, which I should also mention.
More information can be found on the website of Loire and Velo That, unfortunately, only communicates in French.
