A holiday for everyone who likes to be active, from a cozy hut. That’s what Huttopia offers us. We stay in Huttopia Barcelona Pirineos, a wonderfully peaceful campsite in a beautiful location. Here you can go on beautiful bike tours. But there is plenty to do for your family too. It’s a great base for an active outdoor holiday, and we’ll take you on our bike adventures from this location!

Climbing the steep slopes in Spain with a beautiful reward

This Huttopia is really located in the middle of nature. You can walk from the campsite straight to a river. But you can also swim, play in the playgrounds, play table tennis and even play football. There is plenty to do for everyone so. In addition, the reception is happy to help you with the various excursions in the area. And there is plenty of fun to be had! A nice walk can start right near the campsite. The practical facilities, such as a supermarket are a bit further away. But you will definitely get your money's worth for that. We had two clear nights where we enjoyed watching the stars.

But of course we are here for cycling. The immediate surroundings are characterized by worn-out and rough hills. Despite being in the Pyrenees, this is not a high mountain with long climbs. But we wouldn’t call the terrain easy. It is worth it, though, because it was a real treat.

Two beautiful rounds

We drive two beautiful rounds. One from Berga, which we combine with a visit to the supermarket. Because there is nothing like cooling off in a supermarket after a hot ride and with too many Spanish snacks and groceries to go out again. The start in Berga is easy to do; it’s quiet there and we’re soon out of the city and the real climbing begins. Within a few minutes we climb up leisurely.

We recommend that climbers avoid this area. Although most climbs are generally manageable in terms of percentage, the climbs are just as erratic as the views. There are often stretches of over 10%. In the descents, it often suddenly goes up a few hundred meters again. I myself enjoy it though. I rarely have a fixed rhythm when climbing, and in the descent it’s really nice to get out of the harness every now and then.

Direction to Baelss Reservoir

Back to the route! After the short climb out of Berga, we descend wonderfully wide towards the Baells Reservoir. Then we climb again for a long time. But don’t worry, there are plenty of short descents and just as many beautiful turns along the way. The whole time it’s a pleasure to ride. You can’t hardly feel your legs! Furthermore, the route is characterized by the variety. Sometimes you cycle in the forest and 500 meters later it opens up again. You enjoy beautiful rock formations and rugged mountains. However, we are mainly dependent on water points along the route. Since we are outside the season, the villages are somewhat deserted. No problem for us and we have indicated these on our Komoot routes. But if you want to stop for coffee and cake, you might have to choose another area. The villages aren’t big and there isn’t much to do. We enjoy it in our chalet afterwards!

Nice descent

We start the second route at the campsite. First we descend towards the river, knowing that we can also climb this beautiful path. The first day did not disappoint, but this day takes it to a whole new level! The recipe is the same: when you’re climbing, it’s often nice to have 5% with every now and then a bit of Keutenberg in between. But often you’re allowed to go back down afterwards. The descents on this route are also characterized by the sneaky altimeters. This terrain offers no mercy to anyone… But it’s oh so beautiful! Spain shows its true colors, but at the same time captivates you with beautiful views. This route passes through slightly larger villages, which makes it easier to stop if you want to. Alternatively, you can add an extra stretch to get to Berga, where you can find some local snacks.

Tips around Huttopia Barcelona Pirineos

If you still want to eat outside the hotel, we can highly recommend Hostal Pedraforca. It’s a local restaurant with amazing views. For a locally made burger and tapas, you can head to Font Gran. You can also start a nice walk here. If you want to go a bit further, you can head to Berga. With a short drive, you can wander around and there are plenty of local restaurants.

Huttopia Barcelona Pirineos It has convinced us that this part of the Pyrenees is perhaps a little less well-known. But it is truly beautiful. It is rugged in every way and truly a delight!
