Over the past few months, we at CyclingDestination have not been idle. We have created a lot of content, about many different countries, regions and routes in the Netherlands, Europe and far beyond. Wonderful destinations for a cycling holiday. Cycling in Spain, cycling in Italy, but also bikes in Taiwan or cycling in Argentina. But also Classic Rides, a section in which we also see a lot of interest and which has recently been filled by the men of the Mountain High Chasers: Erwin & Erwin. We had thought ourselves that everyone was absolutely crazy about the adventures From Rik, who has this summer a big deel from Europe played out. But nothing could be further from the truth. Here is our top five articles from last year. In no particular order.

Utrechtse Heuvelrug in the wake of La Vuelta Holanda

We went in search of the gems on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. On this route, we largely followed the route of the Vuelta start in 2022. It was a beautiful autumn ride along beautiful places. With a route of 100 kilometres, we passed Amerongen, along the Valleikanaal canal and the Pyramide of Austerlitz was not missing on this route either. Highly recommended for lovers of beautiful, Dutch nature and the occasional hill. And a castle.

Carinthia: a touch of the Mediterranean

Austria was popular anyway, but Carinthia took the crown. In any case, we were impressed by the landscape and the various possibilities of this state. By the way, did you know that former cycling pro Johnny Hoogerland settled down at Lake Worthersee? It is fertile training ground, as Johnny still rides the cobbles out of the street. If you are in Carinthia, you can climb both the magnificent Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse, as well as the Zoncolan and the gems of the Julian Alps in Slovenia. Besides road cycling, graveling is also increasingly popular in this region. See yourself but!

Mallorca diary

Fair enough, we finished our diary Mallorca (part 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5) also pushed a bit. But then again, what do you want when you end up in a stunning location. Mallorca has long been popular with cyclists across Europe. Rightly so if you ask us. The roads there are gorgeous, you can choose from quiet routes, busier, challenging climbs and, of course, the beautiful route to Cap de Formentor (see the first photo in this article). If you go, choose a stay outside the summer months. It's still nice and quiet then.

Alpes Vaudoises

The Alpes Vaudoises are a beautiful gem, just across the border from France. We wrote this article together with Alain Rumpf, now also a friend of the show. His home region is one to write on. With the Col de la Croix a wonderful crowd-pleaser, the CMC of the UCI in Aigle. Alain also gave us a nice insight into a gravel route and another hidden hill, ending with a view over Lac Leman, towards Génève. So cool and not unexpected that this article was widely read. Because if you go cycling in Switzerland then, this region or the nearby Valais a must.

Abu Dhabi

That Abu Dhabi would finish high made sense. The posting of this article coincided with one Max's world title weekend. It was, of course, for a reason. Still, we were surprised by the wonderful opportunities for cycling in the oil state. Not just the ability to cycle around the Yas Marina circuit, but also the more hilly hinterland offers plenty of opportunities for a wonderful cycling holiday. And that you can cycle in the middle east is becoming more and more obvious.
