In recent weeks, Serbia has been talk-of-the-town. Unfortunately, though, for reasons we would rather not see. If you want to work towards a positive outcome then, you'd better start writing about the country's splendour. Because if you want to go cycling in Serbia, you'd better set aside a few days. The countries of the former Yugoslavia are all wonderful destinations for a cycling holiday. Serbia is one of them. Beautiful nature, friendly people, good food. Belgrade is the capital and manifests itself more emphatically as the place to be for a good party. We went in search of beautiful gems in this cycling destination and then also came across the Tara National Park. What do you think? Gorgeous right?

Basecamp Belgrade

As mentioned earlier, Belgrade is a hotspot in its own right. The city lends itself well to a long weekend, where you can mix culture and sports well. It is literally the centre of the country, where the great River Danube also flows by. Belgrade could be an especially good starting point for a multi-day trip along the river. Furthermore, in the immediate vicinity of Belgrade you will also find the beautiful Ada Lake, popular also with the locals.

Tara National Park

Towards the border with Bosnia, you will find the beautiful Tara National Park. This is a must ride for anyone cycling in Serbia. Around Lake Zaovine, the scenery is dazzlingly beautiful. Green mountains, with rock walls that dive straight down into the clear blue water. In the area itself, you will find, among other things, the monastery of Raça. This is a monastery with an interesting history. From this monastery you can make a beautiful round trip to Lake Zaovine, eventually driving back via Mokra Gora. It is also an absolute delight here for gravel lovers. The park's mountainous surroundings and pine trees create mystical conditions, especially in spring, autumn and winter.

Derdap national park

Another wonderful side of Serbia is if you follow the Danube eastwards from Belgrade. That's a cool route anyway, although you can't quite follow the Danube. From Ram, near the beautiful fortress, you drive along the Danube again to the Derdap national park. Here you'll find Europe's largest gorge. That part of Derdap where the breakthrough gorge lies is also called the Iron Gate Gorge. This park lies on the border with Romania. It is perhaps the most beautiful part of the country. It was added to the UNESCO Geopark list in 2020. Other beautiful stretches include Miroc and Kucaj. Keep the Danube on your left and it is full pull enjoyment
