The year 2021 is nearing its end. Despite everything, it helps to look ahead and make plans. That gives perspective and that helps for positivity! So we are already looking ahead to the cycling destinations for 2022. Because if you are planning a cycling holiday, where do you actually want to go? Will it be classic cycling to Alpe d'Huez Or do you do something else anyway? We give you some ideas, for a crazy trip. Will you look with us? Because these are top destinations for a cycling holiday in 2022: part I.
1. Northern Greece
The region of Macedonia, broadly speaking between the island of Corfu and Thessaloniki is gorgeous for cycling and still totally unknown. The infrastructure there is still sometimes a bit messy, but there are lots of opportunities for a luxurious stay, among the vineyards. It is also a beautiful hilly and mountainous area, where you can find many nice challenges. How about the beautiful Prespa Lake, which is both in northern Macedonia, Albania as Greece lies. The region north-east of Ioannina and around Meteora is also stunning. You have so much natural beauty and places of historical significance here. This region is the go-to destination for 2022.
2. Albania
Anyone who has seen the documentary 'Biking Borders' will immediately agree with us. Because countries like Albania, Macedonia, Romania, but also Caucasus republics like Dagestan or Azerbaijan are quickly forgotten as destinations for a cycling holiday. But it is absolutely gorgeous there. The same goes for Albania. We were already excited after our article 'More than Douze Points' but again, we think this is really going to be a crazy destination. With the guests of Cycle Albania, there is also a good opportunity to go there.
FYN Destination - Denmark
The Tour de France will start in Copenhagen in 2022, but will eventually cross over to the island of Funen (Fyn) in central Denmark. Not only will there be a lot of activity in the run-up to the Tour start, but the city of Odense is Denmark's cycling capital and, with the N8 route to ride and also the country's 'highest climb', the island has a huge amount to offer. Feel like Bo Hamburger (for older fans) or Kasper Asgreen (for now) for a moment.
