Lands of Lleida in Spain

Terres de Lleida is a province in the interior of the Catalonia region. To the north, Terres de Lleida borders the Pyrenees. Around the capital Lleida, the landscape consists mainly of agricultural land. Fruits, grains, olives, grapes and various types of vegetables are grown here. Terres de Lleida is a province that you visit for the tranquility, away from the mass tourism. The region attracts gravel enthusiasts in particular; the many unpaved, dusty country roads make for an unwise choice of gravel routes. The further you go towards the borders of Terres de Lleida, the steeper the terrain becomes.

Terres de Lleida is an area that the average person wouldn’t immediately think of, but that the rock-lover dreams of visiting.

Terres de Lleida is truly a gravel destination. In this special part of Catalonia, there is very little tourism. You feel as if you are in the real old Catalonia. Even when cycling, you encounter medieval villages that make you feel as if you are back in time. It is the kind of destination that you have to experience to really form an opinion about it. In the silence of Lleida, there is a certain ruggedness and adventure. The flat landscape invites you to tear across the gravel paths with all your might. If you are more interested in the hills, completely different landscapes await you in the north and south of Lleida.

In 2025, the finish of the Gravel Earth Series was even held here; Ranxo Gravel. The organization chose the area of Lleida because you can still create routes here that are almost entirely made of gravel.

Ten north-east of the city of Lleida, in Segarra & Pla d’Urgell, the landscape is flat to rolling, with wide views. The northern part of Noguera forms the transition zone between the more southern plains and the Montsec mountain range. Noguera is a fantastic gravel area for those who are really looking for adventure, but still want to cycle on wide, accessible gravel paths. The area borders the Montsec mountain range to the north, where you can climb even higher and the views become ever more beautiful.

The climate of Terres de Lleida is characterized by hot, dry summers and cold winters. In the summers, temperatures can reach above 35°C for prolonged periods. Long cycling trips are therefore not advisable.

The best time to visit Terres de Lleida is in autumn or spring. There is relatively little rainfall in this area, and it is usually sunny and warm enough to cycle for short distances.

In winter, it is usually between 5-10°C during the day. In the north, at the foot of the Pyrenees, snow can fall.
