Bianchi has launched an updated version of the Specialissima race bike in three different versions. The Italian brand claims that the new designs are significantly more aerodynamic than before, and that the top-of-the-range Specialissima Reparto Corse (RC) bike weighs only 6.6 kg (in a frame size of 55cm).
The new Specialissima
The new Specialissima is at the top of the racing bike range from Bianchi, In addition to the aerodynamic Oltre that was launched last year. While the Oltre is designed for better performance on flat and hilly roads, the Specialissima is intended to get you up the mountain quickly. Yet Bianchi says that this all-rounder can also be beneficial on flat stretches.
“The goal of the project was to improve the aerodynamic performance without compromising weight and responsiveness. In this way, we were able to offer a competitive advantage – even on less steep slopes,” continues the Italian frame builder. “Reparto Corse (the racing/design department of Bianchi, ed.) achieved this by adjusting the slope and power parameters that allow the Specialissima to offer an advantage over a pure aero bike.”.
To make the bike faster, attention was also paid to reducing weight. Aerodynamic measures were also taken by moving the center of gravity forward. This created space at the rear of the bike to save weight. The front fork, top tube and bottom tube have been given more aerodynamics at strategic points. The rear fork has been lowered slightly, the D-shaped saddle post is more aerodynamic and all in all, more weight could be saved. Combine that with minimal finishing and you get a maximum weight of 6.6 kg.
