The rain comes down steadily from the sky. We are only cycling for about five kilometers on the Posbank (of the planned 85 kilometers), and it feels like I have been in the shower for an hour already. It is cold, it feels like it’s freezing. Inside me I hear voices: one that makes me laugh and shouts that I should stop, another that encourages me to keep going. ‘You’re not even wearing any sugar!’ With the kilometer, it gets wetter. Where I think the rain is slowly stopping, it is only the forest that keeps us dry. ‘There’s dust on your helmet!’ shouts Dennis from behind me. Seriously? Is this really happening?
Resting
When we have driven 15 kilometers, we stop to discuss it. Stopping in the cold and the rain is almost a waste. Either you have to sit inside, or you have to keep moving. Anyway, what has been done doesn’t take time twice. We continue. I actually feel a sense of satisfaction within myself. We started this, then we’ll finish it as well. We have done the first beautiful climbs of the Posbank, but somehow I missed the beauty a bit. That will come later. As we turn and turn a little, we just pedal harder. When in doubt, pedal it out.
What came before
At the end of December 2021, at the beginning of January 2022, Ruben and I came up with the idea that it would be great to go on several micro-adventures. Micro adventures are actually mini vacations. The idea is that you leave from home, drive into the wilderness, and then return home immediately. You can also stay somewhere and return home the next day. With that idea in mind, we planned a few days when we would go on them. With the idea: we provide inspiration from ‘home’. Home can therefore be anywhere. Because not everyone lives in the Randstad.
Planning is one thing, implementation is…
In consultation with Wouter, from our partner Etxeondo, we devised a cool starting point and route. Cycling on the Posbank, because it doesn't get much more beautiful than that. The start at Cycling specialty store Roelofs in Arnhem. That's perfect. Last Thursday of January. What could possibly go wrong? Not that anything went wrong, per se, but the outcome was different from what we initially had in mind.
