Although you can cycle in any weather, cycling in the sun is perhaps the best. Not too much, because 40 degrees is another thing. But about eighteen degrees, just enough to ride short-short? We don't say no to that. Even in autumn, I like to ride in warm sunshine. That's why I have listed 10 sunny cycling destinations for a nice autumn holiday. Some classics but also definitely some new fill-in

  • Mallorca, Spain: Mallorca is the autumn destination par excellence. What an insanely cool island this is. The cycling culture here is great, as are the roads and the variety you find in climbs and flat routes. We love coming here, as both Ruben, Dennis and myself (Sander) have been there in recent years. What do I say: preferably, I will go back tomorrow.
  • Algarve, Portugal. Admittedly, Portugal is still a developing cycling destination. The country lends itself perfectly to scenic rides, with its combination of a beautiful coastline, its rolling hills, not to mention its mild climate. In particular, the Algarve is then a top choice. Expert tip: Try the coastal route from Lagos to Albufeira.
  • Sicily, Italy. Oh I love Italy. That should be obvious by now. Italy feels like coming home to me. Many will secretly look to Tuscany for a nice gravel adventure. Remember, however, that Italy is more than Strade Bianche. Sicily also comes highly recommended in this respect. Discover the rugged landscape, the Etna volcano and the wonderful atmosphere. Don't miss the Valley of the Temples near Agrigento or drive through the orchards near Syracuse and Noto
  • Crete, Greece. Cycling in Greece is really underrated. The Peloponnese, the north near Macedonia, Kefalonia, Zakynthos. But certainly also the largest Greek island of Crete offers challenging climbs and great coastal routes. Cycle through the Samaria Gorge for an unforgettable experience.
  • Costa Blanca, Spain. A favourite among pro teams, amateurs and anyone who loves cycling. This area around Alicante is popular not only with holidaymakers, but also with cyclists. The mountains of the hinterland offer plenty of entertainment and the facilities around the seaside resorts are perfect. The weather, we don't need to talk about.
  • Provence, France. I see lavender fields and I see the Cote d'Azur. The Mont Ventoux, Col de Turini, you name it. This region is of course famous for its lavender fields but Provence is also the destination for sunny autumn days. Just be careful if you head into the mountains, as it can be chilly on top. Big tip: cycle through the Luberon or visit historic cities like Avignon.
  • Antalya, Turkey. Antalya, Bodrum, Izmir. The Cor and Don chills run down my spine. Still, I was once tempted by a long weekend in Antalya. That was great, as long as you know where to go. The same goes for cycling in this seaside resort. Avoid the tourist centre and head into the mountains. Check the routes of the Antalya Tour, for example, and you'll know enough. Not only Antalya is beautiful but also a little further away you can have a blast in Izmir. Combine your drive with a dip in the Mediterranean. By the way, if you stay long enough, you can also go skiing nearby. You didn't know that!
  • Dalmatian Coast, Croatia. We were already in Croatia once for a wonderful off-road adventure. Autumn is a very good time here! Explore the islands and coastline of this beautiful region. Cities such as Split and Dubrovnik are also worth visiting, with Dubrovnik really needing to be on time due to the crowds.
  • Corsica, France. When it comes to France, Corsica is a bit the underdog. However, the mountainous island likes to show off its beauty. Corsicans are proud and feel more Corsican than French. This mountainous island offers challenging climbs and breathtaking views of the Mediterranean. Don't forget to explore Cap Corse. We wrote about it before!
  • Sardinia, Italy. According to Italians, you'll find the most beautiful beaches in Sardinia. Not for nothing one of the world's 'blue zones'. Besides sun-drenched beaches, Sardinia also offers challenging climbing routes (and you can do some good graveling too). The cuisine of Italy, and Sardinia in particular, speaks for itself.... The coastal route from Alghero to Bosa is highly recommended.

Wherever you go, don't forget to enjoy the sun, the scenery and, of course, the ride itself. Happy riding!
