Pinarello has a brand new Dogma X endurance race bike The launch also extended the current X series endurance racing bike range. The Dogma has long been Pinarello’s top race bike, with the Dogma F as its flagship model. Pinarello is now launching the Dogma X model, which they say is an endurance racing bike aimed at long days on the saddle. We explain why this bike might be your ideal choice for your next cycling holiday.
Pinarello says the new model is inspired by riders who enjoy long days in the saddle. The goal is to find a balance between performance and riding comfort. The Dogma X has improved tire clearance for tires up to 35 mm, a new Endurance geometry and a 3.9 mm shorter reach than a Dogma F. It also features a strikingly new X-Stays upright rear fork design, with an extra pair of carbon fiber tubes meeting the upright rear fork.
The entire range of bikes has now been revamped, with the old Paris and Prince models having already been replaced and the X-series now expanded with an X9, X7 and X5 model.
X-stays are the new standard
The most striking feature of the new Dogma X and X series bikes is what Pinarello calls ‘X-Stays‘. The Italian frame builder boasts of its ’always A-symmetric‘ design. The asymmetrical tubes of the rear fork have been given an extra ’X’. This material, between the seat tube and the upright rear fork, now has an extra pair of carbon tubes that connect the rear fork and seat tube at two points.
Carbon layup – high quality
The brand says the X-Stays have carefully chosen carbon fiber layup patterns, as well as a smaller diameter in the curved upright rear fork. Pinarello says This modification distributes the forces across the saddle tube in two points to further reduce vibrations on the rider’s back. All of this while increasing lateral stiffness to compensate for the lengthening of the bike’s rear fork. In this way, the installation of a compression system was avoided and it is now also possible to fit 35mm tires. A win-win situation, therefore.
Even more technology: the rear frames are made of the Japanese T1100 1K carbon fiber from Toray. If we can believe the Italians, this is the new benchmark for carbon, both in terms of stiffness and weight. The bikes are therefore a bit lighter than their predecessors.
The starting prices are not cheap: since the DOGMA is the top model, you’ll have to expect to spend around €15,000 for a complete, DURA-ACE equipped bike. A frame set costs a little more than €6,000.
