Shimano has announced a recall for 11-speed HOLLOWTECH II road cranksets produced between 1 June 2012 and 30 June 2019, due to a possible problem with the loosening of some crank joints. After Shimano already announced a recall in America and Canada last week, the announcement for other parts of the world, including the Benelux, now follows. Precise numbers are not known but it would involve almost 2.8 million (!) cranksets.
Cranksets produced between 1 June 2012 and 30 June 2019
The recall concerns 11-speed Hollowtech II Cranksets manufactured between 1 June 2012 and 30 June 2019, for Dura-Ace and Ultegra groupsets, namely the following sets:
- Ultegra FC-6800,
- Ultegra FC-R8000,
- Dura-Ace FC-9000,
- Dura-Ace, FC-R9100
- Dura-Ace FR-R9100-P
Owners of a groupset with the cranksets in question can report to a Shimano Service Centre or Shimano Dealer who will perform an inspection on the crankset to check for the aforementioned defect. Only in case of defect will the crankset be replaced. This is therefore also not an exchange but a voluntary inspection.
Does my crankset need to be checked?
