From May 16 to 20, we are traveling in southern Germany, where we stay in the beautiful region around Zwiesel, in the heart of the Bavarian Forest. The new Landal park Arber It is still under construction, but the location is already ideal for an active, sustainable holiday in the middle of nature, just a stone's throw from the Czech border.
Electric travel: sustainable travel
We depart in an environmentally conscious manner: driving an electric car southwards towards the green heart of Germany. The charging infrastructure along the way is excellent, making the journey smooth and comfortable. Sustainable travel not only gives a good feeling; it also makes the journey quieter and more mindful.

Bavarian hospitality and mountain landscapes
One thing you will immediately remember: South Germany has beautiful rolling hills. It is a low-to-medium-altitude region, so you see wooded slopes and the famous charming villages with their bell-shaped church towers. Zwiesel is located on the edge of the Bayerischer Wald National Park, the oldest national park in Germany. This park is known for its dense forest, its wild animals, and the beautiful views from peaks like the Großer Falkenstein and the Rachel. It’s a feast for the eyes.
The region exudes tranquility and tradition. In villages like Bodenmais or Frauenau, you can still see old traditions such as woodworking, glassblowing, and Bavarian folklore (with traditional costumes) in full swing. That makes it extra beautiful here. Our accommodation in Zwiesel is comfortable and spacious, with a sauna (!), a bath, and multiple bedrooms—ideal for cyclists traveling in groups. Landal understands what active travelers need: secure bike parking, space to recover, and direct access to nature.
Cycling through Germany and the Czech Republic
The highlight of the trip is three days of wonderful cycling through the border area between South Germany and the Czech Republic. For the record, you are here in Bavaria, the largest state of Germany. The area of Bavaria is the same size as the entire Benelux region! For this trip we brought our own bikes. We ride on well-maintained bike paths that meander through forests, valleys, and picturesque villages. What characterizes this region are the challenging routes. Bavaria, and especially the combination with the Czech Republic, provides routes with significant elevation changes. One thing is certain: at the end of a climb you always find a beautiful view, real silence, and fresh air.
What stands out is the quality of the infrastructure: both in Germany and in the Czech Republic, the trails are perfectly signposted. We stop at the typical local cafes and inns. There we can truly enjoy the fresh Apfelstrudel, hearty soup or a Czech beer. The hills are challenging, but not unnervingly steep. Ideal for those who enjoy climbing without Alpine ambitions.
A region with potential
Although the Landal park is still under construction, the region already proves to be a hidden gem. The park has many facilities, such as charging stations and bike and hiking trails right from the park. The proximity to the Czech Republic also makes Landal Arber in Zwiesel ready to become a top location for real sustainable cycling holidays. You can also find the true Bavarian charm here, combined with pristine nature and thus the possibility of going across the border. That always adds something extra and therefore makes it a destination with a future.

This journey to the Bavarian Forest is a perfect blend of sustainability, nature, and adventure. The electric car journey is not only environmentally conscious but also surprisingly practical. The bike tours through the green border region provide a sense of freedom and connection with the landscape. And although the park is not yet complete, the accommodation from Landal already plenty of comfort and cycling-friendly facilities. This leaves a lot to be desired.
