Over the past few months, we at CyclingDestination haven’t been sitting still. We’ve created a lot of content about many different countries, regions and routes in the Netherlands, Europe and far beyond. Beautiful destinations for a cycling holiday. Cycling in Spain, cycling in Italy, But also cycling in Taiwan or cycling in Argentina. But also Classic Rides, a section that we also see a lot of interest in and that has recently been filled by the men of the Mountain High Chasers: Erwin & Erwin. We had actually thought that everyone was completely crazy about the adventures from Rik, who is this summer one big deel of Europe It did happen. But that is not true at all. Utrecht's Heuvelrug in the footsteps of La Vuelta Holanda
We went in search of the gems on the Utrecht Heuvelrug. On this route, we mostly followed the route of the Vuelta start in 2022. It was a beautiful autumn ride through beautiful places. With a route of 100 kilometers, we passed through Amerongen, along the Valleikanaal, and the Pyramide of Austerlitz was also not missing on this route. A must-see for lovers of beautiful Dutch nature and sometimes a hill. And a castle.
Carinthia: a touch of the Mediterranean
Austria was popular anyway, but Carinthia stood out. We were already impressed by the landscape and the various opportunities in this state. Did you know that former professional cyclist Johnny Hoogerland has settled down on the Worthersee? It is fertile training ground, because Johnny still rides the cobblestones on the road. If you’re in Carinthia, you can climb the magnificent Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse as well as the Zoncolan and the gems of the Julian Alps in Slovenia. Besides the road bike, gravel biking in this region is also becoming increasingly popular. Look yourself but!
Diary Mallorca
Fair enough, we have our Mallorca diary (part 1, 2, 3, 4 en 5) It’s also a bit crowded. But hey, what do you want when you end up in a stunning location? Mallorca has been popular with cyclists all over Europe for years. That’s only right, if you ask us. The roads are beautiful, you can choose between quiet routes, more crowded, challenging climbs, and of course the beautiful route to Cap de Formentor (see the first photo in this article). If you go, choose a stay outside the summer months. Then it’s still nice and quiet.
Valais Alps
The Alps Vaudoises are a beautiful gem, just across the border with France. We wrote this article together with Alain Rumpf, Now also a friend of the show. His home region is one to write about. With the Col de la Croix as a beautiful attraction, it CMC from the UCI in Aigle. In addition, Alain also gave us a nice insight into a gravel route and another hidden hill, which ends with a view over Lake Leman towards Geneva. So it’s cool and not unexpected that this article has been read a lot. Because when you go cycling in Switzerland, this region or the nearby Valais a must.
Abu Dhabi
It was logical that Abu Dhabi would finish high up. The publication of this article coincided with the world title weekend of one Max. That was, of course, for a reason. Yet we were surprised by the wonderful cycling opportunities in the oil-rich country. Not only the possibility to cycle around the Yas Marina circuit, but also the somewhat more hilly hinterland offers ample opportunities for a wonderful cycling holiday. And that you can cycle in the Middle East is becoming increasingly clear.
