Canyon has launched a new version of its successful Grail gravel bike. The German bike manufacturer from Koblenz has chosen to replace the ‘double decker’ handlebars that they were known for with a more conventional variant for this new Grail. Interestingly, because the double decker was actually capable of doing so much, especially regarding alleged comfort and handling benefits. Anyway, Canyon has still tinkered with a lot of things. Here are some of the new features and changes.
1. New Geometry and Aerodynamics:
- The bike has received a new geometry that contributes to a better riding experience. Improvements have been made in the aerodynamics of the bike, which can contribute to less air resistance and therefore more speed.
2. CFR model:
- A CFR model (Canyon Factory Racing) is now also available. The CFR models from Canyon are top of the line, meaning better performance, less weight. You can see that in the 118 grams less weight this grail has compared to its predecessor, but also the 10% improved stiffness, as the Germans claim. We know: Germans don't joke about things.
3. Tailored to your needs:
- The frame of the new Grail was designed with you in mind. Various options and mounting points have been added to adapt the bike to the individual preferences and needs of the user.
4. Storage space in the Lower Tube:
- There is a storage compartment in the lower part of the frame. This is convenient for storing essential items such as tools or some food. This saves space in the frame bags again!
5. Special Frametas:
- Canyon has also developed a special frame mount that can be attached from the storage compartment in the lower tube. This contributes to the ease of use and functionality of the bike.
6. New CP0039 Steering:
- The new handlebar (CP0039) has mounting points for a stem, so it can also be used in races. Many riders use a stem for gravel races like Unbound.
- The handlebar is inspired by the time trial handlebar of the Canyon Speedmax, where aerodynamics and speed are of great importance.
7. Various mounting points:
- Various mounting points are provided on the bike, such as for additional bottle holders or fenders. This makes the bike more versatile and adaptable to different riding conditions and personal preferences.
