Gravel is hot. We know it. Nowadays, everyone seems to choose the thick tires and forest over the 25-28mm tires and asphalt. The gravel events in the Netherlands are springing up like mushrooms. Absolutely awesome, of course! What we also see is that multi-day gravel events seem to be the trend. So why not go for a two-day or three-day free pass to the off-road playground? We’ve put together five multi-day gravel events in the Netherlands, plus a bikepacking weekend as a bonus. Enjoy!
Graveller Brabant – Veghel
When organizer Carola Groeneveld started several years ago together with Ellen Brunninkhuis, Graveller adventure, They had not expected that they would be able to put together a beautiful festival in such a short time. The first edition (limited by Corona) was immediately sold out, and the subsequent editions were also a success. The events of Graveller are a regular fixture on the calendar. Carola is now organizing the events herself and the venue has changed. Graveller has settled in Brabant. Update: The next edition is from June 4 to 6, 2027, again in Brabant; tickets and details will be available on graveller.cc.
Limburg Challenge – Swalmen
We now increasingly know that Limburg is also well suited for gravel. They have picked that up in Swalmen as well. Limburg Challenge In addition to an MTB tour, there is also a gravel edition. With a north route and a south route, at the end of the weekend you are the new gravel king of Limburg. This event is also all about the atmosphere, with a nice BBQ, a warm welcome on Friday and all the services you would expect from a gravel event in the Netherlands. Here too, after the weekend you are only €169 poorer, but with a much more enjoyable experience!
Gravel Path Alphen
If you have nothing to do in October, don't wait any longer and head straight to the Gravel Path website. This new event, from brewery Boslust in Alphen in North Brabant (yes, that's right, from Alphen-Chaam) also offers you three days of fun again. An arrival day with a nice welcome and a short gravel ride; two days of gravel fun on the bike on weekends; and of course, the beer will be no problem here. The Green Egg BBQ is on and with the campfire, the stories will come naturally. Enjoying two wheels on this new event; although the first edition is always a bit of a wait. Cost for 3 days / 2 nights: €195
Servatius Bikepacking
If you have nothing to do in September, you can have a great time in Maastricht during the Servatius Bikepacking Weekend. It’s a beautiful route, crisscrossing Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium. Technically it’s not very much in the Netherlands, but that’s okay. Start and finish in Maastricht, so let’s keep it simple. Here you will find more information.
Mergelheuvelland 2-day tour – South Limburg
Two days of gravel through the hills of South Limburg: that’s the Mergelheuvelland 2-day event (MH2D). In addition to an MTB and road version, the event also features a gravel version, with two distances per day over gravel roads, narrow paths, and of course the necessary elevation meters. The routes are well signposted and you can participate alone or as a team. The organization works together with KWF: if you raise at least €500, you will receive your registration fee back. The next edition is on September 18 and 19, 2027; registration opens on January 15, 2027. More information at mh2d.nl.
Bonus: Grunnduro – Groningen
Do you really want to go bikepacking, with your gear on the bike and spending the night in a campsite? Then Grunnduro is a must: a gravel-bikepacking weekend from Groningen through the unpaved roads of the Northern Netherlands. You choose between 150 or 250 kilometers in two days, about 75 or 125 kilometers per day. On Saturday evening there is a dinner and a camping spot available, and on Sunday morning a breakfast. Participation costs €39 without accommodation or €99 with accommodation, dinner and breakfast, for a maximum of 150 participants. The date of the next edition is not yet known; Keep an eye on grunnduro.nl.
