The surrounding region Pisa position itself firmly as a gravel destination. On April 17, 18 and 19, 2026 find the first Terre di Pisa Bike Days The event takes place in a three-day gravel and cycling event with an expo, test bikes and guided rides through the Tuscan hinterland. The organization is a collaboration between the Chamber of Commerce of Northwest Tuscany and the tourism cooperation association of 26 municipalities in the region. We have already written about it before. Terre di Pisa Bike Trail as Tuscany 2.0. And editor Sander was there in 2025 and took the pictures below. Non is good!

Giardino Scotto – cycling from a fortress park
The epicenter is Giardino Scotto, an old fortress in the middle of Pisa that now serves as a city park. A Bike Village is being built there with an exhibition area where brands show off their bikes and let you test them. The exhibition is free to visit, but you do need to register to test your bike.
You’re not testing on a flat surface here, but on the surrounding roads. That means Tuscan soil.
In addition, there is a Bike Park for children aged 2 to 12, supervised by instructors. Handy if you bring the family along and want to give it a try yourself.
The rides – Friday gravel, Saturday sea, Sunday mountains
During the three days, there are guided group rides on the program, each with a different character:
| Good day | Ride | Departure |
|---|---|---|
| Friday 17 April | Gravel Ride del Lago | Giardino Scotto |
| Saturday, April 18 | Urban Ride by Mare | Lungarno Leonardo Fibonacci, 16:30 |
| Sunday, April 19 | Road Ride of the Mountain | 9:00 |
Friday: a gravel ride along the lake, starting from the Bike Village. Saturday is a relaxed urban ride towards the sea, Sunday takes you into the mountains on the road. Three flavors in three days.
Terre di Pisa Bike Trail – if you still want to go
And then the bigger picture. The Terre di Pisa Bike Trail is a permanent round of ±535 km, Divided into eight stages. Expect about 43% off-road kilometers and 9,900 meters of elevation gain. The route runs through the interior of the province of Pisa: from the hills near Casciana Terme and the wine region around Lari, via the nature reserve at Santa Luce, to the geothermal steam fields in the Valley of the Devil at Pomarance. Then on to Volterra with its Etruscan history, the truffle area around San Miniato, and via Pontedera (yes, the Vespa museum) back to Pisa.
We drove there for a while and can confirm: the routes are beautiful. Tuscan hills, white roads, vineyards, villages on mountain peaks.
Do you have just one extra day after the Bike Days? Then take the first stage towards Casciana Terme Lari. Do you have two or three of them? Drive on over to Volterra.
