With the 100% women cycling initiative, Switzerland Tourism (ST) wants to inspire more women to engage in outdoor sports and encourage them to try new sports. Over the past two years, 100% Women focused on hiking and mountain climbing. This year, the campaign focuses on cycling. The campaign includes a gravel challenge, sporting challenges for national and international female ambassadors, and a new platform featuring cycling offers specifically aimed at women. This year, 100% Women is also being launched on March 8, International Women’s Day.

Women on the move

Cycling and women’s participation are really seeing an increase. The first Tour de Suisse for women took place in 2021, and the launch of the Tour de France Femmes in 2022 was a resounding success. This year, Switzerland Tourism hopes to get even more women from all over the world to start cycling by promoting attractive cycling packages for women.

Cycling paradise Switzerland

The Swiss Tourism Office sees great potential in outdoor sports aimed at the female audience. With the 100% women cycling initiative, it wants to raise awareness this year of the diversity of Switzerland as a cycling destination. The varied range of routes for road cyclists, gravel bikers, mountain bikers, and also for e-bikes in combination with the good quality of the infrastructure ensure that the Alpine country has a lot to offer for the growing number of cycling tourists. And don’t forget the Swiss Bike Hotels and Bike Friendly hotels.

50 new bike offers

In 2021 and 2022, Switzerland Tourism organized two actions as part of the 100% Women initiative – the Peak Challenge and the world record for the longest female rope team. In addition, it has encouraged the tourism industry in Switzerland to develop offers aimed at the female audience. Today, on March 8, International Women's Day, ST, in collaboration with its tourism partners, is launching more than 50 cycling offers for 2023, ranging from day trips to multi-day cycling tours, competitions, events, or technical courses.

Partners from the bicycle industry

Important partners from the cycling and tourism industries come together here. With the Swiss Cycling Federation Swiss Cycling, the bicycle brand BMC, and the outdoor route planner and navigation app Komoot There is a strong concept. During the summer season of 2023, various activities will also be organized across the country to bring women in the cycling sport to the spotlight worldwide, such as the “100% Women Gravel Challenge”, with, among others, the well-known influencer Monika Sattler. In addition, well-known national and international female ambassadors will participate in their own cycling challenge.

Inspiration on our platform

We ourselves are fans of Switzerland. The country of infinitely beautiful mountains, climbs, lakes, chocolate, (expensive) watches and cheese is an inspiration for every cyclist. In June we will once again be heading to Crans-Montana. But we can wholeheartedly recommend other places in Switzerland. Check out our special page.
