With the 100% Women cycling initiative, Switzerland Tourism (ST) aims to inspire more women for outdoor sports and encourage them to try new ones. For the past two years, 100% Women focused on hiking and mountaineering. This year, the campaign focuses on cycling. The campaign includes a gravel challenge, sporting challenges for national and international female ambassadors and a new platform with cycling offers specifically aimed at women. Also this year, 100% Women will be launched on 8 March, International Women's Day.

Women on the move

Cycling and cycling is really seeing a rise in women's participation and more focus on women. The first Tour de Suisse for women took place in 2021 and the launch of the Tour de France Femmes in 2022 was a downright success. This year, Switzerland Tourism hopes to get even more women from around the world into cycling by promoting attractive cycling packages for women.

Cycling paradise Switzerland

The Swiss Tourism Office sees great potential in outdoor sports aimed at the female audience. With this year's 100% women's cycling initiative, it aims to highlight Switzerland's diversity as a cycling destination. The varied range of routes for road cyclists,, gravel bikers, MTB and also for e-bike combined with the good quality of the infrastructure ensures that the alpine country has a lot to offer for the growing number of cycling tourists. Do not forget the Swiss Bike Hotels and Bike Friendly hotels.

50 new bike deals

In 2021 and in 2022, Switzerland Tourism organised two actions under the 100% Women initiative - the Peak Challenge and the world record for the longest female rope team. It has also encouraged the tourism industry in Switzerland to develop offers aimed at the female audience. Today, on 8 March, International Women's Day, ST, in cooperation with its tourism partners, is launching more than 50 cycling offers for 2023 ranging from day trips over multi-day cycling tours to competitions, events or technical courses.

Partners from the bicycle industry

Key partners from the cycling and tourism industry come together in it. With the Swiss Cycling Federation Swiss Cycling, the bicycle brand BMC, and the outdoor route planner and navigation app Komoot stands a strong concept. During the 2023 summer season, several campaigns will also be organised across the country to highlight women in cycling globally, such as the "100% Women Gravel Challenge", Including the well-known influencer Monika Sattler. In addition, well-known national and international female ambassadors will participate in their own cycling challenge.

Inspiration on our platform

We are fans of Switzerland ourselves. The land of infinitely beautiful mountains, climbs, lakes, chocolate, (expensive) clocks and cheese is an inspiration for every cyclist. In the month of June, we ourselves will be descending again in Crans-Montana. But other places in Switzerland we can heartily recommend. Take a look at our special cycling in Switzerland page for general info, tips and links to stories and routes.
