Of Achterhoek has launched its spring guide. “The landscape is not a backdrop; it is a playing field that invites you to go outside”, writes Achterhoek Tourism on the campaign page. We know that playground – the most beautiful gravel tracks, the beautiful countryside and the variety of terrain that makes you want to come back again and again.
Of inspiration guide It was launched on February 16 and revolves around four pillars: active outdoor activities (cycling, hiking, gravel biking), culinary delights (local products, breweries, wine producers), hotel-to-hotel arrangements with luggage transport, and cultural heritage.
Coulisselandschap as a training playing field
The guide focuses on beautiful new routes with options for road bikes (asphalt) and gravel (over country roads and unpaved paths). The Achterhoek has quite a hilly terrain, more than you might expect, but without extreme elevation changes. It is actually constantly changing and you can enjoy 70 to 90 kilometers of winding along fields and estates, perfectly enjoying all the beauty the region has to offer.
For those going with a group: there are various hotel-to-hotel packages, where luggage is transported, you cycle from A to B, and your bag is already ready when you arrive. However, check if your accommodation offers explicit bicycle facilities – for example, a good, enclosed storage area, a cleaning area, and preferably an early breakfast.
Plan B: what if it all goes wrong?
Dutch spring. The guide has a list of “things to do” there: castles, museums, tastings at local brewers and winemakers. Morning ride of 50 kilometers, afternoon at a brewery, evening local beer on the terrace when the sun still manages to shine through.
They call their culinary side “Taste for Taste” – arrangements around local products, farm visits, and craft breweries. “The Achterhoek is something you can really feel… here, everything revolves around pure flavors and local pride”, according to the campaign page.
Also on the spring agenda: local markets, spring festivals and the opening of the terraces in villages like Bredevoort en Dinxperlo. The guide brings everything together in one place.
