Italy is one of the most versatile cycling countries in Europe. From the high mountains of the Dolomites and the Alps to the rolling roads of Tuscany and the gravel roads of Puglia: you can cycle here virtually all year round.
Furthermore, Italy has something that many other cycling destinations lack. Cycling is deeply ingrained in the culture. You cycle past Giro climbs, through historic villages, and along roads where race history has been written. And after the ride, there’s usually an espresso, a plate of pasta, or a good glass of wine waiting for you.
But Italy is big. The best destination depends therefore mainly on what you are looking for. Mountains and famous cols? Look at the Dolomites, Piedmont or Lombardy. Sloping roads and gravel? Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna and Le Marche are interesting options. Sun, coast and a longer season? Then look at Puglia, Sicily or Sardinia.
