The region mainly attracts gravel lovers; the many unpaved, dusty agricultural roads mean that you have an immense choice of gravel routes here. The further you go towards the borders of Terres de Lleida, the hillier the terrain becomes.
Terres de Lleida is one such area that the average person would not immediately think of, but which the gravel lover dreams of.
Terres de Lleida really is a gravel destination. There is very little tourism in this special part of Catalonia. You imagine yourself in real, old Catalonia. While cycling, you come across medieval villages that take you back in time. It is the kind of destination you have to experience to really judge. Indeed, there is a certain ruggedness and adventure in the silence of Lleida. The flat landscape invites you to tear hard along the gravel paths. If you fancy the hills more, totally different landscapes await you in the north and south of Lleida.
In 2025, the finish of the Gravel Earth Series was even raced here; Ranxo Gravel. The organisers chose the Lleida area because you can still make routes here that consist almost entirely of gravel.
North-east of the city of Lleida, in Segarra & Pla d'Urgell, the landscape is flat to rolling, with wide views. The more northerly Noguera, forms the transition area between the southern plains and the Montsec mountains. Noguera is a fantastic gravel area for those who are really looking for adventure but still want to cycle on wide, accessible gravel paths. The area borders north to the Montsec mountains, where you can climb even more and where the views become increasingly beautiful.
Terres de Lleida's climate is characterised by hot, dry summers and cold winters. In summers, it can be above 35°C for long periods. Taking long bike rides is then no longer wise.
The best time to visit Terres de Lleida is in autumn or spring. There is relatively little precipitation in this area, and it is usually sunny and warm enough for short-short cycling.
In winter, daytime temperatures are usually between 5-10°C. In the north, at the foot of the Pyrenees, snow can fall.
