As an avid cyclist, exploring new destinations by bike is one of the best experiences you can have. Whether you choose an adventurous road bike ride through the Alps, a leisurely gravel ride through the rolling countryside of Tuscany, or a challenging long-distance ride on the vast roads of America, there's always one thing you can't forget: your smartphone! In this blog, we cover 7 handy apps that will take your holiday cycling experience to the next level.

Cyql

Cyql is a versatile app designed specifically for avid cyclists like you. Cyql helps individual cyclists, cycling friends and cycling clubs to cycle more, together and more safely. We also enjoy using this app for our group rides. In addition, Cyql provides more efficient communication among each other. Whether you want to meet up for a ride together, meet new cycling buddies or just share tips and experiences, Cyql makes it easy. With Cyql, you not only improve your own cycling experience, but also become part of a vibrant cycling community that shares the same passion. Plus point: the app is Dutch-made!

Strava

One of the most popular apps among cyclists, Strava offers a unique combination of performance tracking and social media. With Strava, you can not only record your ride data, but also compare segments with other cyclists and share your performance on your profile. You can also use it to share stories and get inspiration. It's a great way to challenge yourself and be part of a passionate cycling community.

Komoot

Fair is fair: we are fans of Komoot. If you are looking for adventure and keen to discover new routes, Komoot is the app for you. This app offers detailed maps and route planning, with voice navigation to show you the way. Komoot makes it easy to discover off-road routes and beautiful landscapes, and you can also share your routes with other cyclists. It's the perfect app for planning epic cycling adventures. Only tip: sometimes there is what we call a 'komoot' in your ride. Always check your route when you've planned it for 'weird corners' and sections where you can't actually cycle. Considering the premium version? That makes sense because you can plan routes over several days and you also get the weather forecast. Useful? Yes, definitely!

Trailforks: for the mountain bikers among us

For avid mountain bikers, Trailforks is an indispensable app. This app is specially designed for exploring mountain bike trails around the world. Trailforks lets you view detailed maps, elevation profiles and trail conditions. It also has a built-in route planner and the ability to record and share your rides with the community. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned downhill racer, Trailforks will help you find the best trails and get the most out of your ride.

WeatherPro

Nothing is as changeable as the weather. As a cyclist, you know that the weather can play a big part in planning your ride, especially if you are going to cycling in the mountains. With WeatherPro you can view detailed weather information and forecasts for any location in the world. Super chill, then. It helps you plan your rides based on the weather and prepare for any changes. Whether it's rain, wind or sunshine, WeatherPro makes sure you're always up to date.

Bike Repair: The digital bike repairer

Everyone knows it. You're cycling and suddenly you don't hear a crazy ticking. A mechanical problem. The great frustration of every cyclist. You're all prepared and then suddenly you do have a breakdown. With the Bike Repair app, you always have a digital bike mechanic at hand. This app offers step-by-step instructions and videos for fixing common bike problems, such as flat tyres, brakes and chain problems. It is a great tool to help you with minor repairs and make sure you are back on the road quickly. Download it here.

Google Maps

Last but not least, Google Maps is very often your lifesaver. A versatile app that should not be forgotten. Besides the standard navigation function, it offers Google Maps also detailed cycling routes and cycle-friendly navigation. Again, note there how you end up with 'paths you can't cycle'. We usually use Google Maps to quickly find a restaurant or cafe, or if you want to find the most direct way back to your starting point. Of course, it also helps for the necessary POIs but basically this is our 'fall back option'.
