The organisers of the Grand Tour Catalunya Gravel have launched a completely new self-guided gravel circuit through Catalonia. The route is 2,500 kilometres long, has 42 stages divided into five sections, and covers around 45,000 vertical meters. Therefore, this is not a short weekend ride, but something you can spend days, weeks, why even months on.

Modular design
The concept is modular: you can join at any point, ride at your own pace, and in principle tackle individual sections of the route. Stages range from 37 to 86 kilometres, making it accessible for gravel riders who don't necessarily want to hammer out 150 km a day. According to the organisers, the emphasis is on gravel paths, greenways and low-traffic connections. A look at the first stage (Barcelona–Terrassa, 54 km, 1,300 m elevation gain) gives an indication: 54% gravel, 35% tarmac, 11% greenway or cycle path.
From Barcelona to the Pyrenees and back
The route is a circular path that starts and ends in Barcelona. From the city, it goes via the vineyards of Penedès and the coast near Sitges direction Tarragona, road to the Ebro Delta and through the interior to Lleida. The route then climbs into the Pyrenees in the direction of La Seu d'Urgell. Dan you pass the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park. Next, you descend again via Girona and the Costa Brava to Figueres. The stage race takes you back to Plaça Catalunya via Collserola Natural Park and Passeig de les Aigües. You can hardly get a nicer way to come home.
The route takes in the coast, vineyards, volcanic landscapes in Garrotxa, and the Pyrenees in one continuous gravel trail.
Digital passport and logistical support
The creators of this route have developed a digital passport. In this passport, you will find 200 interactive checkpoints along the route. Additionally, partner agencies offer support for multi-day rides, including cycle-friendly accommodation and luggage transport.
You might as well make it a complete bikepacking trip as five separate gravel weeks spread over a few seasons.
